Jorge Ibanez is a professor of Chemistry  in the Department of Chemical Engineering.  He earned his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, University of Houston, Texas (1982) and was Postdoctoral Fellow, working on Electrochemistry of Semiconductors. University of Houston, Texas (1983).  He is the author of 3 books Books and author or co-author of more than 50 publications in refereed journals. He was the Founder of the Mexican Microscale Chemistry Center (This Center initiated its activities in 1990). Winner of several Awards, between them the prestigious Mexican Chemical Education Award (1998).  President of the Mexican Electrochemical Society (1996-1998) and President of the Exact Sciences Committee, International Division, CONACYT (Mexican National Science Foundation, 1999).

His current research and publication interests are in Electrochemistry, Analytical Chemistry and also Education: he developed several laboratory experiments on electrochemical remedial of the environment, published on the Journal of Chemical Education.
